Overcoming Treatment Obstacles – It is common for people to have tried to overcome OCD without success. It could have been with a therapist or a self-help book. There are many reasons why this could happen. This does not mean you are not treatable—it means we have to identify and overcome the obstacles interfering with treatment to create the proper conditions for ERP to be effective. For example, certain personality features can diminish the efficacy of the treatment and thus need to be addressed.
OCD can affect one of more area of you life. Some of the most common OCD “themes” are listed below, but OCD can attach itself to almost anything. The themes your OCD affects can persist or change throughout your lifetime.
Contamination OCD – fears about getting sick from a wide range of contagions
Disgust OCD – a deep aversion of coming in contact with anyathing that is viewed as “disgusting”
Responsibility OCD – fear of contracting and passing a disease to others
